International Multidisciplinary Research Conference

The 4th Turkana University College(TUC) International Multidisciplinary Research Conference was held on May 16th and 17th, 2024, at the TUC Main Hall. This year's theme focused on promoting transformative research, innovation, and technology to achieve sustainable socio-economic development. The conference featured several papers presented by researchers from various institutions across the country.

In his opening remarks, the principal, Prof. George Chemining’wa, emphasized the crucial role of academics and researchers in addressing national challenges. He highlighted the recent heavy rains that caused severe floods, leading to deaths, displacement, business disruptions, and interruptions to the school calendar. "We need to forge multi-sectorial and multi-disciplinary strategies for managing the floods," he reiterated.

Prof. Chemining’wa also pointed out that Kenya invests significantly in youth education and training to develop a skilled workforce for both the local and international job markets. He urged TUC researchers to enhance their skills in Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) to contribute to the growing economy. He noted that the world is becoming increasingly competitive, and acquiring technological skills is essential to navigate today's fast-paced, technology-driven landscape.

The guest speaker, Prof. Peter Amuka, delivered a keynote speech on the vital role of STI in achieving sustainable socio-economic development. Additionally, Prof. Amuka captivated the audience with a speech on the timely topic of love, exploring the contrast between ideal love and reality and its impact on peace. He also discussed the importance of infrastructure in enhancing peace and noted TUC's commitment to contributing towards lasting peace in the region.

The conference provided a platform for sharing knowledge, fostering collaboration, and addressing key issues through innovative research and technology.
