Profile for Prof. George Muthaa

Professor George Muthaa is a social scientist in educational Management. He holds a Doctorate degree in Educational Management, a master in Educational Management, a bachelor in Education with Economics and Business studies as the teaching subjects. Besides he has a Master in Business Administration (MBA) strategic Management option. He has a graduate diploma in Leadership Development, ICT and Knowledge Society from Dublin City University in Finland and a certificate on Ethics in Higher Education for Teaching Professionals from Globethics, Geneva, Switzerland.


Professor Muthaa started his career as a teacher in Meru Technical Training College present Meru National Polytechnic, where he taught Financial Accounting to the CPA students. In 2003 Professor Muthaa produced the award winning student in Financial Accounting. Professor Muthaa Joined Chuka University as a Lecturer and grew through the ranks to Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor and finally to Full professor in 2019 in the Department of Education and resources development of Chuka University.


At Chuka University Professor Muthaa has served at various management positions. He was the founding Chair of the Department of Education (2009 - 2013), the Director Board of Postgraduate Studies (2014 - 2017). In 2017 – 2000, He was elected Dean in 2017 and 2019 respectively unopposed serving successful for two terms. He has served as acting Deputy Vice Chancellor (ARSA) (February – March 2017), Director Embu Campus 2016 – 2020.


Professor Muthaa has served in various committees including, Chair committee on Gender Violence and Harassment which developed the Gender Policy, Chair Chuka University Staff Association, Chair Whistle Blowers Protection Development Committee, Member tender committee, Chair tender evaluation Committees, Member E-learning system implementation Committee, member of committee for preparation of the Quality policy statement, Chair organizing committee for the 1ST Annual Research Conference, Chair staff vetting Committee 2013, Chair Repairs and Maintenance Committee, Chair Senate adhoc Committee on Students Unrest.


Professor Muthaa is widely published in areas of educational management. He has published over 60 articles in peer reviewed journals. He has participated in 10 international research conferences. He has supervised 9 doctorate and 70 master students to completion. Professor Muthaa has authored a book titled “Strategic Management for Educational Institutions” published in Stockholm, Sweden by Free World Publishers (2018). Professor Muthaa has facilitated many workshops including, Workshop for Postgraduate Students and Staff on Proposal writing For Kenya Methodist University (KEMU) (2020), Meru University Deans and Directors Workshop (2015),  Secondary School Principals of Meru County in (2015) (2014)(2013). Deputy Principals’ Imenti Central District conference (2013), Young Christian Students’ workshop on Financial Management and Investments (2012), Annual Student Leaders’ training Igoji Teachers Training College (2009 to date), Leadership and management Meru Training Institution Students’ Council (2009).


Professor Muthaa is a trained peer reviewer with the Commission for University Education. Besides reviewing curricula for various Universities he has participated in the comprehensive audit of 9 Universities including, Great Lakes University of Kisumu, Kisii University, Maseno University, Laikipia University, Moi University, Catholic University of Eastern Africa, Kenyatta University, Multimedia University of Kenya and Tangaza University College.

Professor Muthaa has won competitive research grants and trainings and collaborations which include research grants by NACOSTI, and Chuka University Internal grants, DAAD and Osnabruck University training for International Deans Course, Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship Programme (CADFP) which developed 2 Academic Postgraduate programmes in Social Justice Education and mentorship of postgraduate students.


Professor Muthaa is actively engaged in community activities. He is currently serving Chair of the County Education Board – Meru County. During the period of his leadership he has developed the County education strategic plan. Member, Board of Management- Meru   School, 2015 to 2019 Member Board of Management- St. Lawrence Secondary School (2015- 2019), St. Cyprian Boys Secondary School  (2012 – 2019),  Member Board of Governors- Kirua Technical Training Institute (2014 – 2017), Chairman Old Boys and Girls- Muthara Primary School, Founding Chairman, Management Committee- Muthara Day   Secondary School, Chief Guest Ikuu Girls secondary school   educational a day (2014), Chief Guest for the prize giving and Launch of strategic plan for St. Catherine Nthagaiya Girls Secondary school (2013), Lead person in development of the Meru South District five Year Strategic Plan (2013 - 2017), Founder Member Tigania Cultural Development association and Chairman curriculum and development.


Professor Muthaa is a member of various professional bodies including Kenya Universities Quality Assurance Network (KuQAN), International Vocational Education and Training Association, Inc. (IVETA), Organization for Social Science Research in East and Southern Africa (OSSREA). EMSK (Education Management Society of Kenya and a Member Board of Trustees).
