Pursuant to statute VIII of Turkana University College, the Council acting on the recommendation of the Public Service Commission following a competitive recruitment process and in consultation with the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Education, has appointed Prof. George Chemining’wa as the Principal Turkana University College for a period of five years with effect from 9th February, 2022.

Prof. George Ndiema Chemining’wa is an agricultural scientist specialized in agronomy. He graduated top of his class with B.Sc. Agriculture- First Class Honours (University of Nairobi, 1990) and holds M.Sc. Agronomy (University of Nairobi, 1994), a Ph.D. in Plant Science (University of Manitoba, 2002) and Diploma in Rural Innovation Processes (ICRA, Netherlands, 2005).

Prof. Chemining'wa joined the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Nairobi, as an Assistant Lecturer in 1995 and rose through the ranks of Lecturer (2002), Senior Lecturer (2008), Associate Professor (2013) and to the ultimate position of Full Professor in 2019 in the Department of Plant Science and Crop Protection. 

Prior to his appointment as the Principal , Turkana University College on 9th February, 2021, He served as the Acting Principal ,Turkana University College from 29th July 2020 to date. With his experience in management and administrative processes at the Faculty, College and University levels, Prof Chemining'wa will indeed steer Turkana University College to greater heights.
