VALIDATION OF QMS DOCUMENTED PROCEDURES AND INTERNAL AUDIT TRAINING
Turkana University College held internal audit training for its members of staff from Tuesday 14th November, 2023 to Friday 17th November, 2023 at Saint Teresa Pastoral Center Lodwar. The training was conducted by the National Quality Institute as part of the process towards the attainment of ISO 9001: 2015 certification.

This training was meant to impart the necessary skills to the trainees on the conformance and implementation of processes based on ISO 9001:2015. The participants learnt how to initiate an audit, prepare and conduct audit activities, compile and distribute audit reports and complete follow-up activities. The training was officially opened by the Deputy Principal Administration, Finance and Planning-Prof. George Muthaa. In his opening remarks, he emphasized on the importance of the training to the institution towards attainment of ISO 9001: 2015 certification. He urged the trainees to uphold the universities core values especially integrity during the training period for a successful training. Prof. Muthaa reiterated that the standard is the first port of call for almost all organizations, large or small, public or private, that have decided to strengthen, streamline or review their management procedures.

During the training, the trainees were taken through QMS model for ISO 9001:2015, and the role of internal audit in the maintenance and improvement of QMS, with reference to the Plan-Do-Check-Act cycle, they were also trained on the role and responsibilities of an auditor to plan, conduct, report and follow up an internal QMS audit, in accordance with ISO 19011 In addition to that, the auditees were also trained on how to plan, conduct, report and follow up an internal audit of part of a QMS based on ISO 9001:2015. The Three days training provided participants with an in-depth overview of Quality Management Systems and process-based audits. During the course the Tutors took participants through internal auditing requirements from both an auditing and implementation perspective. The training was successfully concluded on 17th November, 2023 where the trainees sat for a written examination.
