THE DIRECTORATE OF OPEN DISTANCE AND E-LEARNING
Turkana University College, Directorate of Open Distance and e- Learning (ODEL) seeks to reach out to students who are busy but need to learn, progress in their careers and also to give learners an opportunity to pursue our courses with flexible time schedules. This is to the advantage of students who may not have time to attend traditional classroom sessions. ODEL offers learning modes that enable students to learn in the comfort of their homes, offices and on the move.


Turkana University College e-Learning Management System is Moodle based which is simple and provides full time service to students.

FUNCTIONS OF THE DIRECTORATE OF OPEN DISTANCE AND E- LEARNING 

i. Formulate and review University College Open Distance and e‐learning policy;

ii. establish the standards for the e-Learning platform;

iii. suggest and establish the infrastructural resources required for efficient service delivery of      ODEL;

iv. consider and develop effective e-Learning content;

v. Identify and maintain appropriate ODEL resources;

vi. Recommend ODEL budget;

vii. determine the bandwidth and connectivity requirements for various ODEL modes;

viii. develop appropriate business model for e-Learning services;

ix. scrutinize any relevant hardware and software license agreements with vendors and service level agreements and advise the University College Management Board

x. Address any other ODEL strategies as may be suggested by The University College Management Board and the Council.
