PRESIDENT RUTO PRESIDES OVER LAUNCH OF KSH 660 MILLION STUDENTS’ HOSTEL PROJECT AT TURKANA UNIVERSITY COLLEGE

His Excellency Dr. William Samoei Ruto, PhD., C.G.H., President of the Republic of Kenya, on Tuesday, 16 th December 2025 paid an official visit to Turkana University College (TUC), where he presided over the foundation stone laying ceremony for a KSh 660 million Students’ Hostel Project under the Government’s Affordable Housing Programme (AHP).

The project is set to significantly enhance student accommodation at the University College by delivering modern, safe, and affordable housing facilities. Upon completion, the hostel complex will provide 1,374 bed spaces, easing the current accommodation shortfall and fostering a more conducive learning environment for students.

Speaking during the ceremony, the President reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to strengthening higher education infrastructure and expanding access to quality education, particularly in underserved regions such as Turkana County. He noted that investments in student housing are critical to improving learning outcomes and supporting the growth of public universities and university colleges across the country.

During the visit, President Ruto toured the project site and officially laid the foundation stone, marking the commencement of construction works under the Affordable Housing Programme.

The President was received by the Turkana University College Council, led by Council Chairperson Dr. Salim Ndemo, alongside Council Members, the Principal, Prof. George Chemining’wa, the Deputy Principal (Research, Innovation and Linkages), Prof. Peter Edome, as well as staff, students, county leadership, and other invited guests.
