In preparation for the implementation of Competency-Based Education (CBE), lecturers from Turkana University College underwent a training session from 3rd to 5th June 2025 at TurkReef Hotel, Lodwar. The retooling exercise was conducted by trainers from the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD), Nairobi, and was aimed at equipping academic staff with the necessary skills and approaches to align teaching practices with the evolving national education standards.

The training focused on key thematic areas, including transformative curriculum development and pedagogical methodologies in Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET), assessment and evaluation in CBET, and quality assurance and partnerships. Through this training, lecturers were empowered to deliver student-centered learning experiences that emphasize practical skills, continuous assessment, and strong collaboration with stakeholders to ensure the relevance and quality of academic programmes.

The training was designed to enhance lecturers' understanding of effective pedagogical and assessment strategies within the CBET framework, with a focus on practical application in teaching and learning within the educational context. This training also forms part of the paradigm shift and ongoing transition in education at Turkana University College. It represents a clear step toward embracing, institutionalizing, and operationalizing CBE in teaching and learning at the university college. Additionally, it contributes to the alignment of university courses with CBE requirements, ensuring that Turkana University College remains compliant and responsive in curriculum implementation under the national education reforms.
