TUC Hosts Successful Workshop on Contemporary Issues in Postgraduate Supervision

Turkana University College (TUC) recently hosted a workshop on Contemporary Issues in Higher Education and Postgraduate Supervision aimed at equipping lecturers with best practices in postgraduate supervision. The event, organized by the Directorate of Postgraduate Studies and supported by the university administration, brought together faculty members eager to enhance their supervisory skills and improve the quality and completion rates of postgraduate theses.
The workshop was facilitated by Prof. Benson Ojwang from Kaimosi Friends University and Prof. Cathrene Aura from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, both highly experienced in postgraduate supervision and thesis examination. The training covered crucial topics such as supervisor-supervisee relationships, best practices in postgraduate supervision, strategies to improve completion rates, standards in thesis writing, the use of AI in thesis writing and supervision, data analysis using SPSS, and effective assessment and evaluation. The interactive sessions allowed facilitators and lecturers to share experiences and insights, making the training highly engaging and impactful.
At the end of the workshop, participants unanimously agreed on the need for regular training sessions to keep supervisors updated on emerging trends in postgraduate supervision. The Directorate of Postgraduate Studies emphasized the importance of implementing the lessons learned to improve thesis quality and completion rates.
