Turkana University College Expands Global Reach Through Strategic Erasmus+ Partnerships

Turkana University College (TUC) has taken a significant step toward global academic integration by participating in a transformative internationalisation initiative led by the Global Tourism Resilience and Crisis Management Centre – Eastern Africa (GTRCMC-EA) at Kenyatta University. The initiative, launched in 2019, seeks to open up underrepresented regions in Eastern Africa including Turkana to international academic and development opportunities.

Through the support of the European Union’s Erasmus+ programme, TUC is now part of a growing network of institutions fostering student and staff mobility, strategic partnerships, and global knowledge exchange. In July 2025, members of staff from TUC participated in a staff mobility programme at Panteion University in Greece, where they discussed the possible signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and explored opportunities to strengthen ties with leading institutions such as the University of Piraeus and the University of West Attica.

These efforts will soon allow students from Turkana to engage in academic exchange programmes across Europe, providing invaluable exposure to new cultures, ideas, and academic disciplines. This international engagement is expected to inspire a new generation of globally minded leaders who will bring innovation and resilience back to Turkana County.

TUC’s involvement reflects its commitment to enhancing education through global partnerships, while ensuring that the people of Turkana benefit directly from international opportunities. The University College remains steadfast in its mission to become a hub of inclusive excellence, responsive to both local and international development goals.
