International Literacy Day Celebrations Held in Turkana County at Turkana University College

Turkana University College hosted the national celebrations for International Literacy Day on 9th September 2024, underscoring its dedication to promoting literacy and education. This global event, observed annually, highlights the importance of literacy as a basic human right and a foundation for lifelong learning. The celebrations provided a platform to raise awareness about global literacy challenges, showcase achievements, and encourage literacy initiatives aimed at advancing literacy for all.

This year’s celebration was particularly significant as it aligned with Kenya’s Vision 2030—a national strategy to transform Kenya into a middle-income country that offers a high quality of life to all its citizens. Literacy remains a key driver in achieving this vision, playing a vital role in the country’s social, economic, and political progress.
