Turkana University College Hosts WP5 Workshop on Community and Industry Embedding
Turkana University College (TUC) was honored to host the Work Package 5 (WP5) Workshop on Community and Industry Embedding as part of the ongoing Inclusive, Impactful and Integrated (3is) project on higher education in Eastern Africa. Held from May 20 to 23, 2025, this four-day event brought together local (Kenya, Ethiopia and Somalia Land) and international (Girona – Spain and Greece) partners to share experiences, expertise, reflections on best practices, and develop strategies for enhancing University-Community Engagements (UCE).
The workshop opened with a warm welcome from the Deputy Principal of Administration, Finance and Planning, Prof. George Muthaa, who represented the Principal Turkana University College (TUC). Professor Muthaa is the 3is Project Coordinator for the University College. Other project team members from TUC are Prof. Peter Edome, Dr. Gervasio Miriti, Dr. Tioko Logiron and Ms. Harriet Wangui. This was followed by keynote presentations from representatives of Panteion University and Universitat de Girona. The sessions explored the role of UCE in teaching and learning, research, and NGO partnerships, with practical insights shared by RACIDA (Kenya) and the Youth Makers Hub (Greece).

Participants gained firsthand insight into local community initiatives and research infrastructure, further strengthening the connection between academia and the region's socio-economic development.
The WP5 workshop concluded with a reflection and evaluation session, affirming the commitment of all partner institutions to fostering sustainable and impactful university-community engagement. This event marked a significant milestone in Turkana University College’s mission to be a catalyst for inclusive and transformative education in the region.
