Turkana County Marks International Literacy Day at Lokichar
Turkana University College participated in the International Literacy Day celebrations held in Lokichar on 8th September 2025. The global day, observed annually on September 8, seeks to promote literacy and raise awareness of its importance in transforming lives and communities.
The University was represented by Dr. Julius Chepkwony, Dean of the School of Education and Social Sciences, and Dr. Lucy Akinyi, Chair of the Department of Teacher Education. The event aimed at creating awareness on the importance of literacy among adults and out-of-school youth, while also strengthening ties between Turkana University College and the local community.
TUC’s involvement in the celebrations underscored the institution’s commitment to outreach and social responsibility. By engaging with the community, the University continues to promote literacy, raise awareness of learning needs, and foster
lasting relationships that contribute to positive social impact.
