Turkana University College Celebrates Cultural Diversity,
Innovation, Peace, and Unity.
From April 16th to 18th, 2026, Turkana University College (TUC) celebrated its annual Cultural Week, a vibrant three-day festival dedicated to the theme of "Celebrating Our Cultural Diversity, Peace, and Unity." The event effectively transformed the University into a hub of heritage, bringing together students, staff, and the Lodwar community.
The festivities launched with a grand street parade led by the Salvation Army Band, whose rhythmic performance drew crowds as the procession moved into the heart of Lodwar Town. This high-energy opening set the stage for a week focused on solidarity and shared identity.
On the second day, the campus hosted a deep dive into traditional heritage. In the presence of Principal Prof. George Chemining’wa and the Deputy Principal Academic and Student Affairs (ASA), Prof. Hellen Wangechi, students delivered powerful performances including traditional dances, music, and dramatic storytelling. These displays utilized mime and narrative to highlight how cultural appreciation serves as a vital bridge for peaceful coexistence.
The final day reached its peak with innovation presentations by the students, where they showcased creative projects and original solutions that bridged the gap between academic theory and practical community impact. Following these presentations, the week culminated in the highly anticipated Mr. and Miss TUC 2025/2026 beauty contest. This pageant went beyond aesthetics, challenging contestants to showcase cultural depth and intelligence while adorned in stunning indigenous regalia. The newly crowned winners now serve as university ambassadors, embodying TUC’s commitment to inclusivity and cultural resilience.
As Cultural Week 2026 concludes, the University administration extends its gratitude to the organizers, guests, and students. The event remains a testament to the belief that our diversity is our greatest strength, and our unity is our power.
