TURKANA UNIVERSITY COLLEGE MARKS THE WORLD WET DAY CELEBRATIONS

Turkana University College and residents of Turkana County joined the rest of the world in celebrating the world wetlands day at the shores of Lake Turkana in Kalokol on 2nd February 2023.



The celebrations observed annually every 2nd day of February brought on board stakeholders and members of the community concerned with environmental protection and conservation. These included: Turkana University College (TUC), The County Government officials, National Government Representatives, Water Resources Authority, the Kenya Maritime Authority (KMA), World Vision and Wetlands International.




This year’s theme, “It’s Time for Wetlands Restoration “Shows the urgent need to prioritize wetland restoration. The slogan “Our Wetlands, Our Responsibility, Our Future “is a wake-up call for everyone to play a role in conservation of the wetlands for ourselves and the generations to come.



The activities during the day included tree planting and beach cleaning. Two thousand (2000) tree seedlings were distributed to the community.
