Turkana University College Chancellor’s Endowment Fund Launched

Turkana University College launched the Chancellor’s Endowment Fund which is aimed at supporting needy and bright students. The event took place on 25th April, 2023 at the Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) Leadership Centre in Karen, Nairobi. The ceremony was graced by the immediate former MMUST Chancellor, Dr. Peter Muthoka being the Chief Guest. Present during the launch include TUC Council Chairman, Dr. Solomon Muchina Munyua and Council Members and members of the TUC Senior Management. The ceremony was also attended by other stakeholders including representatives from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) and the National Bank of Kenya (NBK) which is a subsidiary of Kenya Commercial Bank. Speaking during the launch, the Chief Guest, Dr. Muthoka thanked the TUC Council and the Management for the support towards the establishment and launching of the Endowment Fund, noting that their contribution towards the Fund is a gesture which will be forever ingrained in the hearts of all the beneficiaries. Dr. Muthoka expressed the need to grow the kitty by reaching out to all TUC stakeholders including Alumni and other well-wishers to contribute towards the kitty in order to increase the number of beneficiaries. He noted that Endowment Fund is a popular resource mobilization strategy in most developed universities and as such, TUC will be able to supplement government capitation. Further, Dr. Muthoka called upon the Management and the Council to explore alternative sources of funding through public-private partnerships, collaborations with other organizations and dissemination of research findings to attract funding. During his remarks, the TUC Council Chair, Dr. Solomon Muchina Munyua thanked all for supporting the establishment of the Chancellor’s Endowment Fund. Noting that the Fund is one of the major achievements for the Council and Management, the Chair called upon all stakeholders to support the fund and to encourage more Alumni members to contribute towards the Fund. One of the guests, Mr. Nick Okello, NBK Relations Manager in charge of Higher Education applauded the TUC Council and Management for establishing the Fund. Mr. Okello stated that NBK is committed towards supporting the Endowment Fund initiative in line with fulfilling the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goal 4 of promoting access to quality education and learning opportunities for all. During the launch, the TUC Principal, Prof. George Chemining’wa thanked Dr. Muthoka for playing a pivotal role towards establishment of the Chancellor’s Endowment Fund during his tenure as the Chancellor. The Principal reiterated that the Fund is a key legacy for the former Chancellor and the Council and will touch the lives of bright and needy students. Further, the Principal expressed his commitment towards ensuring that the Fund is managed prudently in order to support the deserving beneficiaries. In his remarks, the Deputy Principal (Administration, Finance and Planning) Prof. George Muthaa stated that the Endowment Fund is a noble initiative towards the fulfillment of the TUC’s vision and mission by reaching out to the needy members of the society.
